Feasibility study of submersible or semi-submersible eco-islands with monitoring sensors in the Municipality of Nova Gorica

The study was conducted in collaboration with external experts and the company Adal d.o.o.

As a part of the Municipality of Nova Gorica’s project, WASTE DESIGN 2.0 – Developing Joint Solutions and Testing Innovative Technologies in Waste Management and Reuse to Promote a Circular Economy.

Study Objectives:

  • Emphasize the importance of an integrated approach for enhancing the waste management concept and integrating it within the overall context of the functioning of individual social environments, with coordinated involvement of all stakeholders;
  • Define guidelines for:
    • Designing a systemic solution for underground and above-ground collection points and extended collection sites (providing a network of user-friendly waste infrastructure, establishing a network for collecting reusable waste, standardizing and unifying containers, managing cleanliness, etc.);
    • Establishing circular waste management;
    • Setting up central communication (digitization/informatization) for the collection of all types of waste;
    • Optimizing costs;
    • Implementing a system for recording and monitoring waste container fullness;
    • Enabling an identification system for waste input to charge based on the “pay-as-you-throw” principle;
  • Define the locations of underground collection points for MONG based on criteria such as population size, waste volume, location distance, accessibility, utility lines, and greenery;
  • Investment evaluation
